In the northern hemisphere, vines are grown roughly between 30° and 50° latitude. The first vines for the Middle Rhine growing region grow just behind Bonn, at around 51° north latitude. There we start the tasting from "north to south".
In this seminar, we will focus on 8 growing regions in Germany and their variety of grape varieties with a total of 9 wines. The Rhine and its tributaries will serve as a geographical orientation until we reach the warmest growing region, Baden, with its heat-storing volcanic soils. The topic will be why certain grape varieties are more the "Nordic type" and others the "sun worshippers". Climate change is also an issue in German viticulture.
Is it possible to detect a difference in flavour based on origin? An exciting compilation of wines and enough material to discuss flavour and terms such as "terroir", interesting facts and enjoyable experiences await you at this event. Mineral water and bread are of course included in the tasting. Depending on your thirst for knowledge, the event lasts 2.5 - 3 hours.
