For some years now, the south of Italy has been an Eldorado for all wine lovers who love authentic wines of a high standard at affordable prices. The diversity of the wine-growing regions from Vesuvius to Mount Etna and from the Gargano Puglia boot spur to the tip of the boot in Apulia is unparalleled. Fortunately, there are very many fine wines with moderate alcohol levels to be found here - contrary to many preconceptions. Elegant white wines from the Campi Flegrei and Vesuvius, hearty reds from Puglia, Basilicata and Calabria, and the incomparable growths from Etna, which are considered by experts to be on a par with the great wines of Piedmont.
