On Tuesday, 4 May, the Palatinate winegrower Johannes Jülg will be a guest at vinocentral and will talk about what excites him about France in another vinocentral livestream.
Johannes Jülg's role model is France. This is not surprising, because the influence could hardly be more direct. The Palatinate winery is only a Katzensprung away from Wissembourg, the border runs criss-cross through the vineyards. Since 1945, 40 percent of the vineyards have even been on French soil.
But even more: the Francophile passion is a generational project. Grandfather Oskar already planted French Burgundy clones and - completely untypical for his time - cultivated them dry. Father Werner also did pioneering work. He brought barrique barrels into the cellar at a time when they were still frowned upon in Germany because of their roasted aromas. Finally, junior Johannes planted small-berried Pinot Noir grapes according to the French model. The German-French jumelage was perfect. Since then, it has been hailing down awards. Whether Vinum, Eichelmann or Falstaff, everyone is thrilled. And so are we!
