Join us on a sparkling journey through South-East England: Only Sparkling is the specialist for English Sparkling Wine, imported directly from England and has already made a name for itself in Germany for the amazing sparkling wines from the British Isles. But England is known to have more to offer: Who hasn't heard of the beauty of English gardens, the charming countryside and the hospitable people?
For the first time, Only Sparkling is offering a wine trip to this marvellous region. We visit wine houses and cellars, taste fine sparkling wines, take a guided tour of the vineyards and cellars and listen to the fascinating stories of the cellar masters of renowned wineries.
Itinerary:
1. Day: Arrival early in the morning to London/Heathrow, Chapel Down in the afternoon
Our tour guides will be waiting for you at Heathrow Airport at around 9 am UK time (10 am German time). Coach transfer to Kent, lunch in the pub restaurant "Pig and Sty", followed by a guided tour and tasting at the Chapel Down winery. Afternoon transfer to "The Lookout" hotel in Rye. Time to unpack and relax. The restaurant for our evening meal is within walking distance.
2. Day: Rye and Rathfinny Estate
After breakfast, we have plenty of time to explore the picturesque town of Rye. Lovely shops are waiting to be discovered and small alleyways invite you to take a stroll. Lunch "on your own" in Rye. At 12.30 pm, our coach takes us towards Alfriston near the coast to the Rathfinny winery. There we will have a guided tour and a tasting of sparkling wines. We will spend the night right there in the Flint Barn with 10 rooms, which we have booked exclusively for ourselves. Dinner at the Wingrove Restaurant, Alfriston.
3. Day: Leonardslee Gardens with tasting
After breakfast, our coach will take us to East Sussex to the beautiful Leonardslee Gardens, one of the most beautiful woodland gardens in England. Here we have 1.5 hours to explore the gardens before we are invited to the Clocktower Café for a typical English picnic at 12.30 pm. After refreshments, we get to taste the very first vintage of the new Leonardslee winery, which was founded in 2018 by successful entrepreneur Penny Streeter. She has many years of experience in winemaking from South Africa from the Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate in the famous Walker Bay region. In the afternoon, we continue to the historic Highdown Hotel, which was built in 1820. Here we have a little time to enjoy the hotel or stretch our legs in the neighbouring garden. In the evening, we dine in the hotel's Oak Room, which has been reserved for us.
4. Day: Wiston Estate and Stonehenge
At 9.30 am we leave for Findon to the Wiston Estate, which is already looking forward to our visit. Here we are given a guided tour and tasting and then enjoy a delicious lunch in the Chalk restaurant. In the early afternoon we experience pure culture: we visit Stonehenge in Wiltshire, where we arrive at around 4 pm. In 2 hours, we immerse ourselves in English history and learn more about this legendary cult site. Our Mercure White Hart hotel is located nearby in the beautiful provincial town of Salisbury. We will end the day there.
5. Day: Salisbury and Hattingley Valley
We start the day with a short sightseeing tour of Salisbury. The cathedral is worth a visit and a short stroll through the town is recommended. At 11am our coach takes us to Hattingley Valley in Hamphire. We are able to familiarise ourselves with the vineyard and, of course, the fine sparkling wines. At around 3 pm we have to say goodbye to the south of England, as the coach will then take us back to Heathrow Airport, where we will fly back to Germany. Alternatively, you can visit London on your own (not included).
