Georgia is considered the cradle of wine. Grapes were already fermented there 8,000 years ago. Through the natural wine scene, the prehistoric method is experiencing an international revival.

Turning to old, original methods to gain knowledge and inspiration for one's own work is a phenomenon that can be observed in many creative people. First and foremost in art: the ethnologist Leo Frobenius undertook numerous expeditions to the cave paintings of Europe, Asia and Africa at the beginning of the 20th century. Artists were also part of his team. Their task was to produce painted recreations of the rock paintings. For modern artists, these discoveries were a key experience. Many were inspired by them. This will be shown from 24 March to 25 June 2023 in the exhibition "Big Bang of Art. Modernity Meets Prehistory" at the Hessisches Landesmuseum Darmstadt.

In the international wine world today, the millennia-old Georgian tradition of winemaking serves as a source of inspiration for numerous young producers. In the Georgian method, the pressed grapes are filled into large clay amphorae, the so-called quevris, together with the stems, seeds and berry skins. There, the wine then ferments and matures completely "on the skins". This prehistoric method of winemaking is being reinterpreted by European natural wine winemakers. But the current Georgian wine community is also on the rise. Well-trained young winemakers have rediscovered the old method and developed it individually.

At the wine evening "Big Bang Wine" on 17 June, vinocentral will present selected Georgian Quevri wines in the courtyards of the Hessisches Landesmuseum Darmstadt. The German natural wine scene will be represented by winemakers Bianka & Daniel Schmitt, Jonas Seckinger and the Nature's Calling team. The museum gastronomy "Herzblut und Zinke" will serve dishes inspired by the Georgian table and Paleo cuisine. The exhibition "Big Bang of Art. Modernity meets prehistory" is open and can be visited parallel to the wine tasting. An evening with a double big bang!

Included in the admission is a 3-tasting ticket (3 x 0.1l) for the wine and a visit to the exhibition "Big Bang of Art. Modernity meets prehistory" on the evening of the wine tasting between 7 and 9 pm.
The wine evening itself runs from 7pm to 11pm.
