VDP Wine Auction

The single-vineyard sparkling wine 2016 will be auctioned in mid-September. Winemaker Karsten Peter allowed the sparkling wine an incredible 72 months lees ageing! That is twice as long as is specified for a sparkling wine in the VDP "Prestige" category. The sparkling wine was disgorged on 27 July 2023. A thoroughly consistent approach that also underpins Gut Hermannsberg's philosophy in sparkling wine production, because even the Riesling Kupfergrube VDP.Grosses Gewächs is only launched on the market after five years.
With the 2013 Riesling sparkling wine from the Kupfergrube, Gut Hermannsberg has opened a new chapter in its wine history. It was a bang for the buck. The 2013 vintage was immediately named the best single-vineyard sparkling wine in the country by the renowned wine magazine Vinum. The following vintage came in second in the same competition. Gut Hermannsberg even broke with over 100 years of tradition and was the first winery to submit a sparkling wine to the historic auction on the Nahe with the 2013 vintage.
The result proved them right: the 2013 and 2014 Kupfergrube sparkling wines were great auction successes. Now comes a sensational 2016 vintage, which has just been classified as VDP.SEKT.PRESTIGE®, with the marginal remark of the inspection committee: "Really awesome stuff."
On 17 September, the traditional VDP.wine auction will take place on the Nahe in Bad Kreuznach. Presenter Caro Maurer MW will lead through the venerable event together with auctioneer Michael Prinz zu Salm-Salm. Like the two previous vintages in 2013 and 2014, the 2016 Kupfergrube Riesling Extra Brut will be offered exclusively at the auction.
